Privacy Policy

Summary: We don't rent, sell or share your data with other companies or advertisers. Our optional premium subscription is the only way we make money, so our incentives are aligned with yours.

At Strides, we believe you have the right to know how your data is being used, and that businesses should align their incentives with their customers'. In our case, as a software company, we take great pride in the fact that we only make money if you choose to upgrade to our optional premium subscription, which means we never have to sell data or clutter up the interface with annoying ads.

To be totally transparent, we created this privacy policy to explain, in plain English, how we handle data, including any 'Personally identifiable information' (PII). PII, as used in US privacy law and information security, is information that can be used on its own or with other information to identify, contact, or locate a single person, or to identify an individual in context. Please read our privacy policy carefully to get a clear understanding of how we collect, use, protect or otherwise handle your data.

  • INFORMATION WE COLLECT

    Account Information
If you choose to use Strides exclusively on an iOS device, without signing up for an optional Strides account, we don't need to collect any information in order for you to use the app because in this case the data is only stored locally on your device. If you want to sign up for a Strides account to sync your data between devices and keep it safely backed up, you can enter your email address and a password to authenticate. You can also enter your first/last name if you'd like.

    Analytics Services
In order to improve our product, we collect anonymous aggregate data about visitors to our website with Google Analytics and usage of our mobile app with AppCenter and Singular. We don't use any features that track you as a user, we just want to know how people are using our app features so we can make them better and see how marketing campaigns are performing in aggregate to stay in business. :)

    COOKIE POLICY

    Technologies We Use
To provide you with a better experience, we use cookies on our website, local storage and software development kits.

Cookies are small text files stored on your device or in your browser. They can be first-party or third-party. First-party cookies we use are for authentication and security (i.e. Logging in and storing your session so you don't get logged out every time you use the website). Third-party cookies we use are Google Analytics and Amplitude. More information about how we use these cookies to improve your experience can be found in the Analytics Services section above.

Local storage is a way of, well, storing things locally on your device. This can include browser caching, or a local database on your mobile device for offline usage.

Software development kits are simply code blocks that are used to save time and help us understand how our user base interacts with our apps. e.g. Amplitude helps us figure out what features are being used most, and Fabric helps us prioritize and fix crashes.

    Your Options
You can control or limit how we and our partners use cookies:

  • Browser Settings: You can clear or decline cookies
  • Google Analytics: Install the opt-out browser add-on
  • Ads: We don't show ads or track users over time or retarget, but Do Not Track signals can help with other services that do.

  • HOW WE USE INFORMATION

    Provide and Maintain Services
Using the limited information that we collect allows us to provide you with the best way to track your goals and habits with Strides by improving features. If you contact us for customer support we will help you through email and can collect debugging information to fix issues you see. We do not look at your personal data unless you ask us to help with a specific tracker.

    Improve Services
We also use the information we collect to make improvements to the app itself. For example, if we see that a lot of people are using a particular feature, we can focus our development efforts on fixing that feature's bugs or building on it based on feature requests.

    Communicate With You
We do not use push notifications on your phone to interrupt your day with marketing messages. We only send push notifications that you have scheduled in the app to help you with your habits. We do not collect your email address, phone number or any other means of contacting you. If you use our feature request forum you can vote on features, leave comments and subscribe to be notified of updates, in which case you'll receive an email when that feature's status has changed.

    Promote Safety and Security
We also use the information collected to improve the safety and security of our service. For example, authenticating your session ensures that someone else can't log in and mess with your account, so this information prevents fraud and abuse. We also use a secure payment processing system to collect payments through our website.

    HOW INFORMATION IS SHARED

    For Legal Reasons
Though we've never been asked to before, we may preserve of disclose information about our users to comply with the law, governmental process, legal process or regulation; to defend against legal claims or assert legal rights; or to prevent, detect or investigate illegal activity, fraud, abuse, violation to our terms, or threats to the security of our services or the safety of any person. If we need to access your information for legal reasons, such as a search warrant or court order, we will notify you, unless we are prohibited by law to do so. If a court order includes a non-disclosure period, we'll notify you after it has expired. If there's any danger of death or serious injury to a person relating to the notification policy, we won't send a notification to protect them.

We may share non-personal information that is aggregated or de-identified so that it cannot reasonably be used to identify an individual. We may disclose such information publicly and to third parties, for example, in public reports about goals and habits, to partners under agreement with us, or as part of the community benchmarking information we provide to users of our subscription services.

If we are involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, we will continue to take measures to protect the confidentiality of personal information and give affected users notice before transferring any personal information to a new entity.

    HOW TO ACCESS/CONTROL YOUR DATA

    Editing and Deleting Data
You are always free to edit or delete your data in the app. We don't store your data on a server, but if you'd like to delete it from your iCloud account you can do that through the Settings app, under iCloud > Manage Storage > Strides. It will be permanently removed as soon as you confirm the deletion.

    Objecting to Use of Data
You can adjust your privacy and notification options in Settings. If you have other questions or objections about data use, please contact us through the in-app Help Center.

Restricting or Limiting Use of Data
In addition to the various settings that we offer, if you reside in a Designated Country, you can seek to restrict our processing of your data in certain circumstances. Please note that you can always delete your data at any time.

    Opting Out of Marketing Attribution
In order to analyze the effectiveness of our marketing budget we use Apple's SKAdNetwork 4.0 to anonymously attribute revenue to campaigns. Though we can't see any personally identifiable information we still provide a way to opt out of marketing attribution in Strides for those that would prefer to opt out. If you'd like to do that, simply turn off the Marketing Attribution toggle in Strides, Settings, Diagnostics.

If you need further assistance regarding your rights, please contact us through the in-app Help Center and we will consider your request in accordance with applicable laws.

    DATA RETENTION

We do not store personally identifiable data anywhere. We only use aggregate analytics as necessary for our legitimate business interests, for legal reasons, and to prevent harm, including as described in the How We Use Information and How Information Is Shared sections.

    PROTECTING CHILDREN

Children under the age of 13, or any higher minimum age where the child lives, are not permitted to create accounts unless their parent has consented in accordance with applicable law. If we learn that we have collected the personal information of a child under the relevant minimum age without parental consent, we will take steps to delete the information as soon as possible. Parents who believe that their child has submitted personal information to us and would like to have it deleted may delete it from the Account page in the app.

    INFORMATION SECURITY

We work hard to keep your data safe and secure with a combination of technical, administrative and physical controls (e.g. Redundancy, daily offsite backups, SSL, encrypted passwords, etc). No method of transmitting or storing data is completely secure and failsafe, however. If you have a security-related concern, please contact us through the in-app Help Center.
